FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a data space and do I need one?

A data space is a decentralised infrastructure that allows organisations to share data while retaining full sovereignty and control. You don't store your data on a central server — instead, your organisation connects via a secure connector and sets policies for who can access what. If you need to share sensitive data with other organisations — in compliance with GDPR and EU regulations — a data space is the right approach.

How long does onboarding take?

For standard onboarding to an existing data space (such as the DMI ecosystem), the technical setup typically takes 2–4 weeks. Building a new data space from scratch (Data-Space-in-a-Box) takes 4–8 weeks depending on scope. We guide you through the entire process.

Is deXes GDPR compliant?

Yes. deXes is built on EU data space principles and is a recognised EU data intermediary under the Data Governance Act. Data sovereignty is a core design principle — we never process or store your data without your explicit policy consent. All infrastructure is hosted within the EU.

What is the difference between dexes.nl and dexes.eu?

dexes.nl is our company website with information about our services, solutions and team. dexes.eu is the deXes data marketplace — the actual platform where organisations can browse, discover and exchange datasets. Both are part of the same organisation.

Can deXes also help with open data publication?

Absolutely. We have extensive experience publishing open data in compliance with the EU PSI directive and DCAT-AP standards, including projects like data.overheid.nl and wetten.nl. We can help you publish datasets, APIs and documents so they are findable and usable by everyone.
